Ryne Sandberg is more than just about nostalgia. He's a great manager that has proven himself every step of the way. If he were a, say second basemen, playing successfully for two years in single A, another great season in AA, and then two highly successful seasons at AAA, he would definitely be given a shot at the majors. He's done that as a manager, so I don't see how that's any different.
Now let's take his two seasons at Triple A. I succeeded with two different teams, one of which had never seen that kind of winning season. He has proven that he gets respect from the "kids" and can motivate them in ways no one else can. As a legend, he already has the respect of the veterans. Ryne Sandberg is the best man for the job and it's more than just a nostalgia trip.

Bryan LaHair
If the Cubs don't make a play for Prince Fielder, I feel like the best option is Bryan LaHair. Not Albert Pujols and not Carlos Pena.

This would free up money to spend elsewhere, 3B, RF or better yet, pitching. This guy is good and he deserves a chance to play every day. Not two days on, four days off. Not one day on and a week of pinch hits. This is the #1 reason I'm not a fan of Quade. He never gave the "kids" a realistic chance. This is why I'm so excited for Theo. Look back at the "kids" that played under him. Some of them even completely sucked for a while, but the Sox stuck with them and they eventually shined. I hope that LaHair practices at RF and 3B to give him more versatility. If the Cubs make a play for a first basemen, I would like to see LaHair starting somewhere else. That's just my 2 cents.
