NL vs. AL

As a Cubs fan, I definitely don't want Pujols playing on the Cardinals, or in the NL Central...or in the entire National League for that matter. So happy days are here. But there's one down side. I'm a National League guy and always argue with my American League guys about how much better the National League is. Losing Pujols is a huge blow to the National League. He is the best player in baseball and he now plays for that stupid American League with their stupid Designated Hitter.

Ryne Sandberg

Ryne Sandberg is more than just about nostalgia. He's a great manager that has proven himself every step of the way. If he were a, say second basemen, playing successfully for two years in single A, another great season in AA, and then two highly successful seasons at AAA, he would definitely be given a shot at the majors. He's done that as a manager, so I don't see how that's any different.

Now let's take his two seasons at Triple A. I succeeded with two different teams, one of which had never seen that kind of winning season. He has proven that he gets respect from the "kids" and can motivate them in ways no one else can. As a legend, he already has the respect of the veterans. Ryne Sandberg is the best man for the job and it's more than just a nostalgia trip.

Bryan LaHair

If the Cubs don't make a play for Prince Fielder, I feel like the best option is Bryan LaHair. Not Albert Pujols and not Carlos Pena.

Bryan LaHair.

This would free up money to spend elsewhere, 3B, RF or better yet, pitching. This guy is good and he deserves a chance to play every day. Not two days on, four days off. Not one day on and a week of pinch hits. This is the #1 reason I'm not a fan of Quade. He never gave the "kids" a realistic chance. This is why I'm so excited for Theo. Look back at the "kids" that played under him. Some of them even completely sucked for a while, but the Sox stuck with them and they eventually shined. I hope that LaHair practices at RF and 3B to give him more versatility. If the Cubs make a play for a first basemen, I would like to see LaHair starting somewhere else. That's just my 2 cents.

$58 Million

The Cubs have $58 million coming off the books this year. I would have to assume that Mr.Ricketts wouldn't bring in Theo and not let him spend all or more of it. So what to spend it on?

Not Pujols.

It's not that I don't agree that he's the best player in the game. And let's move past the fact that there is a George Foreman guarantee he will be wearing a Cardinals uniform next year. It's the fact that it's going to take 8, 9 years to lock this guy up. There's no way he has more than two or three years before declining stats start to creep in. No, for that amount of time, my money's on Prince Fielder.

So we sign Prince? Well that leaves a lot more money to spend. Pitching, pitching, pitching. Every last penny should be spent on pitching. That's just my two cents. Take it for what it's worth.
